Some disciples of the Grinch are already at work to try to stop Christmas from coming.

The light switch hasn鈥檛 even been flipped on at the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce's Festival of Lights, yet decorations, lights and extension cords have been stolen 鈥 twice.

Brent Fitzpatrick, the chamber鈥檚 executive director, said even decorations made by Futuristic Industries were stolen.

鈥淭here鈥檚 a lot of work that goes into those decorations and it just seems heartless at this time of year to be taking things that don鈥檛 belong to you,鈥 he said.

The thefts happened Nov. 19 and the week before

The local RCMP have been alerted to the thefts and will puzzle and puzzle till their puzzlers are sore to solve the crime. Fitzpatrick asked Humboldt residents to help them out.

鈥淚f you鈥檙e driving by in the wee hours and if you see something around the campground, don鈥檛 be afraid to call authorities,鈥 he said, adding later those that see any of the decorations floating around should also give the police or RCMP a call.

The thefts won鈥檛 stop the Festival of Lights from coming all of the same.

鈥淚t鈥檚 still an important thing for the holidays,鈥 Fitzpatrick said. 鈥淵ou remember going with your parents, driving around looking at lights, I remember that. This is an important part of the holiday season and while we鈥檙e disappointed with the conduct of a few people, we still want to make this a great holiday season.鈥

The display will be turned on at the chamber鈥檚 campground Nov. 23 and will be there until the New Year.
