Inmate dies at Sask. Penitentiary

Brendan Vermette, 31, was serving a two year and eight month sentence for drug trafficking

PRINCE ALBERT – An inmate at Saskatchewan Penitentiary died March 9, 2022.

Correctional Service Canada says Brendan Vermette was serving a two years and eight months sentence for drug trafficking. His sentence began September 2021.

CSC says the inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death. In addition, as in all cases involving the death of an inmate, CSC will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.

Prince Albert Police Street Enforcement Team, Crime Reduction Team and Special Weapons and Tactics Team arrested Vermette after raiding a home in Stull Place in July 2020. Inside the home police found 285.5 grams of crack cocaine, 2,065 grams of cocaine, 335 grams of a cutting agent, a rifle, cell phones, drug paraphernalia, and $100,000 cash.
