Harvey Walker Lindgren was up from the United States on a hunting trip, but ended up being snared by RCMP in Unity for driving while drunk.

Lindgren faces two charges: operating a motor vehicle while impaired and refusing to provide a breath sample.

He appeared in provincial court Oct. 13 in North Battleford.

As Lindgren has no relations in Saskatchewan, Judge David Kaiser made a special allowance for the Golden Valley, Minn. man by arranging to have security personnel accompany Lindgren to the ATM so he could withdraw the $1,000 bail.

Lindgren had only one concern, asking, "How will I get back to Unity today?"

The 73-year-old American is living in his camper, which is back in Unity.

Kaiser smiled as he replied, "It's not too often I get to deal with somebody older than me," suggesting Lindgren was capable of finding his own way back to Unity and Kaiser would worry only about getting Lindgren out on bail.

Lindgren may end up staying in Canada longer than he intended, as he likely faces a driving prohibition.
