Hungry patrons help stuff the stockings

Battlefords Empty Stocking Fund campaign is off to a running start.

Executive director Bill Hall reports 225 attended the annual beef on a bun luncheon launching the campaign Friday. The event raised $1,384. a bit of an increase over last year, when 213 people attended and $1,283 was raised

" From all the comments that I heard, everyone enjoyed the lunch. The nice weather really helped the atmosphere and made it possiblefor people to attend," Hall said.

He added that all the food was donated by Tim's Super A in Battleford.

There are a few upcoming events with proceeds going to the fund.

Metro's Christmas Charity Show with Cashback is Friday at Living Faith Chapel. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Christmas hamper applications start Monday, Nov. 22 and go until Friday, Dec. 5. Applications are taken from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m Monday to Friday at the Empty Stocking Fund/Food Bank, 1171-101st St. Applicants must bring proof of income (social service stubs, bank statements, pay stubs) and proof of expenses, along with ID for everyone in the household.

The Battlefords Ministerial Association annual Carol Festival is Tuesday, Dec. 14 at Third Avenue United Church. The festival starts at 7 p.m. A free-will offering will be collected to support the Empty Stocking Fund.

Donation boots will be placed in shopping areas in Battleford from Dec. 1 to Dec. 22 at Frontier Mall (near Dollarama), Territorial Mall (near Yellow Submarine), Sobeys, WalMart and the North Battleford Liquor Store.
