HUMBOLDT β Rob Muench, mayor of Humboldt, acknowledged the loss of a city worker who died in a workplace incident.
The Sept. 23 council chamber was solemn as Muench thanked the emergency crews who responded to the accident.
On Sept. 18, Ian Irwin died in a workplace accident on Third Avenue in the ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ Industrial area, but there are few details the city can release since the incident is under investigation.
Muench said Irwin started with the city in 2014, with the water and wastewater section of the Public Works and Utilities Department. He descripted Irwin as a familiar face during water main breaks or storm events.
βOver the last five years, [Irwin] contributed to many of the repairs, upgrades, and refurbishes of the city water system that was completed,β Muench said. βHe was always willing to help fellow city staff, contractors, and citizens to ensure that the needs of the community were met.β
The mayor sent his condolences to Irwinβs family and friends on behalf of the entire Humboldt community.
There will be a memorial for Irwin on Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Humboldt, which will be open to the public.
