Councillor Trent Houk is not only talking the talk but walking the walk on a potential Neighbourhood Watch program.
Houk told North Battleford city council June 30 he is spearheading the creation or revival of a Neighbourhood Watch program for the city. He is urging anyone interested in getting involved to contact him at home or at his place of business, and urging City Hall to forward any interested calls on the subject to him.
"I would like to start by forming a committee and I would like to invite any members at large or people in the community who would like to participate in any form or fashion to contact me," Houk said.
Houk himself was one of the victims of the vandalism spree June 12 and 13 that saw tires slashed across the city and other acts of vandalism. About 140 charges have been laid against young people and several accused are now before the courts.
Houk has noted at council meetings the greater desire of people in the community to take matters into their own hands in fighting crime. He has been vocal about toughening law enforcement, particularly strengthening curfew enforcement, at council meetings since then.
