A 58-year old man convicted of once again driving while impaired and driving while disqualified is going to be spending nearly five years behind bars.
Judge David Kaiser sentenced Ambrose George Wright Thursday to a five-year jail term for impaired driving and four years for driving while disqualified. Both sentences run concurrent to one another.
In sentencing Wright, Kaiser called Wright's criminal record the "worst criminal driving record" he has seen since coming on the bench, and the worst criminal driving record he has seen anywhere, for that matter.
These were Wright's 42nd and 43rd convictions going back over 40 years, Kaiser noted. During that period he had 21 impaired driving convictions and 17 for driving while disqualified.
Wright, who was arrested in May in North Battleford, has been credited five months for time served, which means his remaining sentence will run for four years and seven months. He also has been prohibited from operating a motor vehicle for five years after his release.
In handing down the jail sentence Kaiser noted his obligation to protect society, noting the only reasonable way to do that in this case was to separate Wright from society for a period of time.
