The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a call of a one-storey structure fire in the 3400 block of 33rd Street West Sunday. SFD Communications Centre received the report at 8:13 a.m. and immediately dispatched three engines, one ladder truck, a heavy rescue unit, and the Battalion Chief.

The first fire crew arrived at the scene at 8:18 a.m., according to a release provided by the SFD, where that fire had already fully engulfed one of the structures causing flames spread to other structures on both sides. Additional firefighters and a pumper were dispatched to help in containing the fire.

The Battalion Chief assumed command and issued tactical assignments to additional fire crews that arrived. Fire crews began attacking the fire upon arrival and the fire was declared under control at 9:38 a.m.

A crew of four firefighters were also called in putting a reserve apparatus on standby at a fire station during the incident while other on duty firefighters and fire engines were strategically placed near the scene to provide backup and other resources.

Utilities were shut down with SaskEnergy and electrical crews were also on the scene to provide safety and support.

The SFD said that all people inside the structures got out safely and were given first aid with the Salvation Army also providing support to check on the immediate needs of the affected residents. No other civilians or firefighters were reported to be injured due to the fire.

The scene was then turned over to two fire investigators and another from the Saskatoon Police Service at 10:21 a.m. to begin the process of knowing the cause and origin of the incident. The SFD has not yet released on the amount of the estimated damage lost due to the fire. An update will be released after the investigation.
