Brrr. Expect windchills of -40.

SASKATCHEWAN - Extreme wind chill values near minus 40 are expected Thursday night for parts of Saskatchewan.

Environment Canada warns that an arctic airmass is moving over the region, dropping overnight lows to near minus 30 and below. These temperatures combined with winds of 10 to 15 km/h will produce extreme wind chill values of minus 40 overnight Thursday and into Friday morning. Temperatures will moderate through the day on Friday.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk. Watch for cold-related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant. Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside. Keep moving to maintain your body heat and seek shelter from the wind, says Environment Canada.
