It continues to be an exceptional year for building permits issued in North Battleford, with the permit value showing another strong increase in August.
In total, 13 building permits were issued for a value of $1,350,000, which compares to 15 permits for $401,350 for August 2009.
Among the permits that drove the numbers was one new commercial permit issued for $683,000 as well as one new dwelling permit for $330,000. There were no permits issued in either category in August 2009.
There were five residential alterations for $107,000 in August compared to two for $4,800 for the same month last year.
Four garage/carport permits were issued for $78,000, one new industrial permit was issued for $137,000 and one institutional alteration was issued for $15,000.
So far it has been a tremendous year for building permits in North Battleford with 105 permits issued for a value of $33,888,500. That compares to 105 permits issued for $16,276,150 for the same period last year.
That previous total included 13 permits issued for RTM prefabricated homes for a total of $2,022,000 - a one-time source of revenue for the city ash they are no longer issuing permits for these structurs. Even without that revenue, the city remains way ahead for 2010.
The figures were submitted by Building Inspector Jerry Wintonyk to North Battleford municipal services committee, who received the report at their meeting on Monday.
Mayor Ian Hamilton was pleased by the continuing numbers.
"The year to date numbers are incredibly positive for the community," Hamilton said.
He particularly pointed to the spike in new dwelling permits, with 20 issued for a value of $4,759,000 compared to 10 for $2,489,000. As well, there are three condo units permits issued for 2010, compared to two last year, and gains in other categories including residential alterations, new industrial permitts and garages/carports.
"These are just outstanding numbers," Hamilton said.
