Concern for Youth is asking for a lot more money from the Town of Battleford in order to keep their program running.
The organization submitted a request for $17,000 to Battleford town council last week. That would be considerably more than the $10,000 granted by the town last year.
The request was discussed briefly at council Oct. 18. No decision was made on the grant at the meeting, as the request will be considered later during the town's budget deliberations. Council is also seeking more information about the proposal for increased funding.
In their correspondence to the town, Sherri Ranger indicated Concern for Youth needed the extra funds to meet its budget and keep up with the growth the organization has seen in the past few years. In the past they had relied on a surplus from the Ministry of Social Services to meet their expenses, but that surplus is now gone.
The organization also has to meet rent expenses at their new location in North Battleford after having used space at the Alex Dillabough Centre in Battleford at no charge to the organization.
