City of Humboldt creates wellness supports resource page

The new page on the city's website aims to give residents a one-stop place they can go to in a confidential manner so they can look for the help they need.

A new wellness supports page on the City of Humboldt website aims to give people a place where they can look for the help they need in confidential manner.

HUMBOLDT — Humboldt has added a , containing local and out of community resources for mental health, shelters, addictions and employment support services for residents to access.

“As we all know, the mayor has been lobbying the province for more services in these areas,” said Penny Lee, Humboldt’s communication manager.

“[This is] just to bring public awareness also to what kind of services are out there for everybody and to give somebody who’s in need a one-stop place they can go to in a confidential manner so they can look for the help they need.”

Lee said the resource page is intended to be a permanent addition to the website, which will be updated should new resources become available. To update the resources, Lee can be contacted through city hall at 306-682-2525.

For food security, the website points to the Humboldt Food Bank, which can be contacted at 306-231-9970 and has hours of operation on Tuesdays from 2 to 4 p.m.; as well as the Humboldt Soup Kitchen, which can be contacted at 306-360-7888, and answers phone requests Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For mental health, the website has three listings. The first is to the provincial public mental health and addictions awareness campaign “there is help, there is hope;” the second is to the Humboldt Health Complex at 306-682-5333; the third is to Partners Family services which provides counselling, sexual and domestic violence services, in home family supports, parenting programs, education and crisis response in Humboldt and the surrounding area at no fee. Partners can be reached at 306-682-4135.

Addictions has the same contacts, save for two additional resources. These are Al-Anon, which meets each Monday, and Alcoholics Anonymous. Gloria with Al-Anon can be reached at 306-231-9998, which Alcoholics Anonymous can be reached at 306-682-3761.

For shelter, there are 10 listings available with only one within Humboldt, which is the Humboldt Housing Authority who can be contacted by phoning 888-332-7233. The Saskatchewan Rental House Supplement (SRHS) is also listed, which is a monthly payment for Saskatchewan residents that helps families with low-to-moderate income, and individuals with disabilities, access quality and affordable rental housing. They can be contacted at 888-488-6385.

Other, out-of-community listings, include the Qu’Appelle Haven Safe Shelter for women and children; North East Outreach and Support Services; the YWCA of Prince Albert; Prince Albert Safe Shelter for Women; Isobel Johnson Shelter in Regina; Regina Transition House; Crisis Nursery in Saskatoon for children; and Interval House in Saskatoon.

For employment support services, the city encourages community members to reach out to the Humboldt and District Community Services, which is a non-profit organization providing employment, residential, social/recreational, and case management services to individuals, families and communities in the Humboldt region. Also available is an on-site resource centre for job search needs, including access to a computer and resume development. They can be reached by phoning 306-682-1455.

For spiritual care, the Humboldt Ministerial Association is listed, which is an association of local clergy from the various churches in Humboldt.

In any emergency situation, the city advises calling 9-1-1 immediately.
