Kevin and Emily Koop are the new pastoral couple for Blaine Lake Gospel Chapel.

Blaine Lake Gospel Chapel held a Pastoral Commissioning Service for Kevin and Emily Koop Nov. 14.

The service began with the welcome and prayer conducted by Wayne King followed by Della Konkin leading the congregation in worship singing. Scripture reading was presented by Marcie Kreese.

Ralph Gliege recognized that a pastoral commissioning at Blaine Lake Gospel Chapel has been a rare occasion due to the longevity of pastoral couple Gerry and Eleanor Epp, who have been in Blaine Lake for 26 years. Gliege encouraged Kevin to look through the spiritual window to watch over the people and to become a part of their lives.

"The congregation is entrusted to your pastoral care," said Gliege. "You must give account to God on how you lead the congregation. Remember that big things can come out of small congregations and that it is a pity when potential lies dormant within each individual."

Gliege went on to explain the rights and responsibilities of leaders using scripture to emphasize his sermon. Kevin has been licensed as a minister and he asked God to enlighten Kevin with his vision of Blaine Lake Gospel Chapel as he and his wife begin their life of ministry. Wayne King proclaimed a prayer for Kevin as many members of the congregation stood around him followed by Denise Balla presenting a gift of blessing for Emily. It was an emotional interaction as tears escaped Emily's and many members of the congregation's eyes.

The couple had previously been presented with knitted personalized toques identifying them as Saskatchewan MB couple. Ralph Gliege, on behalf of the provincial board of Faith and Life, presented the couple with a cheque to upgrade their telephone system to allow them to remain in touch with friends, family and their congregation members.

Kevin responded by thanking the many individuals for their assistance and support.

"Blaine Lake will be a good place to start my pastoral career," acknowledged Kevin indicating that they were excited about residing in Blaine Lake in the manse. "Everyone has been so warm and inviting in the community."

The afternoon concluded with a potluck meal and fellowship.
