Changes are coming soon to lease fees for cottage lots in Saskatchewan's provincial parks.
A new land lease fee structure has been determined in consultation with the executive of the Saskatchewan Provincial Parks Cabin Owners' Association, with the new structure to be in effect for the next four years. The new fee structure, according to the province, uses a recent assessment value of the cottage lots within provincial parks.
The result of the consultations is that hikes are coming to many cabin owners, although the government has committed to reduce the impact by only increasing fees to reflect the cost of inflation.
According to the province, 32 percent of cabin owners will see their lease fees increase by $300 or more a year. The rest will see either a lower increase or a decrease. The individual impact on cottage owners will vary depending on the value of the land.
Direct services fees, which cabin owners also must pay, are also being updated, with the province saying that overall those fees will be slightly less than in 2009, though in some parks those fees may increase. The direct services fees are cost-recovery fees reflecting the cost of services provided to cottage owners at the parks.
