Details of the land purchase deal made between Battlefords Tribal Council and the city of North Battleford for the CUPlex site are now worked out and should be before council at their next meeting.
City Manager Jim Toye told council at their meeting Oct. 12 that the City had met with representatives from BTC last week on documents regarding the parcel of land involved. Those will be forwarded to city council for public consumption at their Oct. 25 meeting, Toye confirmed.
As well, Toye said the city had talks with BTC regarding an announcement of a contribution to the multipurpose facility and where that stands. It was learned the following day that BTC plans a CUPlex funding announcement Nov. 4.
Toye's response came as a result of a question from Councillor Trent Houk, who had asked if the city had any discussions with BTC on that land deal and on a previously-pledged $2.75 million commitment to the CUPlex announced last fall.
In another inquiry to administration, Councillor Grace Lang pointed to the considerable road work done in the vicinity of the multiplex along Carlton Trail and wanted to know about what the costs of the road would be once it is finished, in response to questions she's received from the public.
Toye said the road is to be paved to the east side of the facility (the aquatic centre), and that road work should take place after the construction is completed on the CUplex. Construction is expected to go on for about two years. With respect to the costs, Toye said a report is expected at the next city council meeting as to what will be in the budget for servicing that particular road.
