B'fords RCMP: 551 calls for service, 24 assault investigations

Weekly list includes 25 Mental Health Act investigations.

THE BATTLEFORDS — Battlefords RCMP responded to 551 calls for service Wednesday, Aug. 10 through Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Six Missing Persons Reported

One active investigation.

24 Assault Investigations

• Police were called to a residence on the Moosomin First Nation at 10:20 p.m. on Aug. 16. A woman in her thirties was suffering from a suspected broken wrist sustained during an assault. The suspect was reported to have fled. The area was searched and the suspect located and arrested. The 33-year-old male accused is facing charges of assault causing bodily harm and resisting arrest.

• Call of an assault on 93rd Street in North Battleford reported at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 16. Victim reported several incidents over a period of time. No injuries reported. Police later located and arrested a 17-year-old youth who has since been released from custody on charges that include assault.

• Police were called to a residence on the Mosquito First Nation reporting an assault at 12:10 p.m. on Aug. 14. The victim reported being punched in the head and sustained minor injuries. A 43-year-old male is facing charges of assault.

• Report on Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. at a residence on the Saulteaux First Nation of an assault. The victim was reportedly assaulted during an altercation with the suspect, who then threatened to burn the home. A 30-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault, uttering threats and failing to comply with an undertaking.

• Police were called to a disturbance on 17th Street in Battleford at 11:55 p.m. on Aug. 12. An intoxicated male was causing a disturbance in the area. The subject was located and arrested by the responding member, struck the arresting member and attempted to flee. The accused was apprehended quickly and taken into custody. An 18-year-old male is facing charges of assaulting a police officer and escaping lawful custody.

• Two 14-year-old youths arrested on the Battleford Bridge shortly before midnight on Aug. 14 near North Battleford after they both were reported to have pulled a knife on a third male. Police arrested both youth shortly after and recovered three knives. Both are facing charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon.

• Police were called to a residence in Cando on Aug. 16 at 3:45 p.m. A woman in her forties was reported to have been assaulted during an incident in the home. A 38-year-old male was arrested on scene. He is alleged to have thrown several items at the victim who was not reported to be injured in the incident. The accused is facing a charge of assault with a weapon and is scheduled to be released from custody pending a future court date.

• On Aug. 16 shortly before 9 p.m., RCMP received a call of two suspects breaking into a residence on the Saulteaux First Nation and assaulting the occupants of the home. A woman in her sixties was found to have sustained injuries that included a cut to her arm and was reported to have been struck by the suspects with a metal bar. Two other victims in the home did not have any injuries. The injured victim was transported to hospital and treated for her injuries. A 20-year-old woman was arrested and also taken to hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. She is facing charges of break and enter and assault with a weapon. Charges are currently pending against a second suspect who had fled the scene prior to police arriving.

Nine Break and Enter Investigations

• Break-in to a business on Highway 16 East North Battleford at approximately 3 a.m. on Aug. 11. Suspects cut through a fence and stole keys for some equipment.

• Break and enter to a business on the 1600-block 100th Street in North Battleford at 3 a.m. on Aug. 15. Damage reported to a door and a wall discovered.

• Break and enter to a garage on 19th Street in Battleford reported at noon on Aug. 10. Two quads, two helmets and a chainsaw among items reported stolen.

• Break-in to a residence on the 1300-block 106th Street in North Battleford reported at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 13. Door appears to have been kicked in but nothing reported taken.

Five Vehicle Thefts

• A black 2012 Chevrolet Equinox with Saskatchewan licence 895MKF stolen from Ross Crescent at about 3 a.m. on Aug. 15.

• Blue 1993 Ford Ranger with Alberta licence BFZ6482 stolen from Alfred Street in Cochin in the early morning of Aug. 15.

Three Individuals Charged with Impaired Driving

A 20-year-old woman was arrested and charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm, refusing to provide a breath/blood sample, driving while prohibited and fleeing the scene of an accident after a two-vehicle collision on 15th Avenue in North Battleford at 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 11. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The accused was located at a nearby residence a short time after the collision and arrested. She also was then taken to hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision.
