B'fords RCMP: 23 assaults investigated, 19 missing persons

One break-in nets three televisions.

THE BATTLEFORDS — Battlefords RCMP responded to 445 calls for service Wednesday, Aug, 3, through Tuesday, Aug. 9.

• 911 call to a residence on the 1000-block 110th Street at 8:40 p.m. on Aug. 3 reporting a disturbance. Upon arrival police located a woman in her thirties suffering facial injuries. The suspect was located hiding elsewhere in the home and arrested without incident. A 34-year-old woman is facing a charge of assault.

• 911 call to a residence on St. Laurent Drive at 1 a.m. on Aug. 7. Complainant reported he received a call from a woman to attend the residence to help her move a water cooler, but when he arrived she threw the water cooler at him and started to hit him. Upon arrival at the scene there was a second male on scene in a physical struggle with a bystander. The second male was reported to have started damaging property at the location after the initial confrontation between the original caller and suspect had ended. The male was taken into custody after a brief struggle. The 27-year-old man from Lloydminster is charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and mischief. An 18-year-old woman was also arrested on scene, charged with one count of assault against the original complainant.

• Police were called to a residence on the Sweetgrass First Nation at 1:40 a.m. on Aug. 8. A woman who was on conditions to not be at the locations had arrived and assaulted the complainant and another occupant of the home. The suspect had fled the area prior to police arrival but was arrested about two hours later when she returned. A 39-year-old Wilkie woman was held for court on charges of assault x 2 and failing to comply with an undertaking x 2.

• A vehicle check conducted at 3 a.m. on Aug. 8 on the 1200-block of 111th Street has led to numerous charges against a Saskatoon man. Police observed a truck which was displaying an incorrect licence plate and completed a check. During the check police located a Tazer, illegal drugs and cash. The male attempted to run from members during his arrest but was quickly taken into custody. Cody Caron, 39, was remanded into custody and appeared in court on Aug. 9 on charges that include assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of cocaine for purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine for purpose of trafficking and possession of a prohibited weapon.

• Police were called to Mackenzie King Crescent shortly after 5 a.m. on Aug. 6 following a report of a stabbing. Police located a 15-year-old youth at the scene suffering an injury to his right side. He was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Another 15-year-old youth was arrested on scene in connection with the incident. He has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court charged with one count of assault with a weapon.

• Police were called to a residence shortly after 5 p.m. on Aug. 7. A 13 year old was suffering from an edged weapon injury to their upper back. A second 13-year-old youth was arrested on scene without incident and held in custody. She made her first appearance in Provincial Court on Aug. 8 charged with assault with a weapon. The victim was taken to hospital and treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Six Break and Enter Investigations

• Break and enter to a storage shed on the 400-block 33rd Street in Battleford in the early morning hours of Aug. 3. A barbecue, bike, Christmas tree and tools were reported stolen.

• Residential break in on 1100-block 109th Street in North Battleford sometime in the day prior to Aug. 3. Three televisions were taken.

Five Vehicle Thefts

• A Grey 2008 Chevrolet Impala with Saskatchewan licence 606MKM reported stolen on the afternoon of Aug. 7 from MacKenzie King Crescent.

A brown 2003 Ford F150 with Saskatchewan licence 010MQX reported stolen from Panton Avenue some time in the week prior to Aug. 8.

Two Individuals Charged with Impaired Driving

• Report of a two vehicle collision on 105th Street shortly before 4 a.m. on Aug. 6. Upon arrival police discovered one of the drivers was showing signs of impairment by alcohol and had failed to yield at an intersection and struck a second vehicle. A 20-year-old woman was arrested and later released on charges of impaired driving causing bodily harm and driving while over .08 causing bodily harm. The 18-year-old male driver of the other vehicle was treated from non life threatening injuries sustained in the collision.

• 911 call made from a residence on the Red Pheasant First Nation on the early afternoon of July 31 reporting an assault. Victim was located on scene and advised a male in the home was under influence of narcotics and had assaulted her during an argument. A 33 man was arrested on scene without incident and held in custody until his first appearance on Aug. 2 on charges of assault, uttering threats and failing to comply with a release order. No injuries reported during incident.

• Police were called to the 1200-block 110th Street at 2 p.m. on July 27 on a report of two males fighting. A 24-year-old male was arrested on scene after it was determined he attacked the second male while holding a knife. The second male was not injured. The accused was released to appear on Aug. 8 on a charge of assault with a weapon.

• Report of three people assaulted with bear mace were currently at a residence on the 1100 block of 109th Street at 8:30 a.m. on the July 30. Three women in the twenties were provided with treatment for exposure to bear mace. A suspect has since been identified and the investigation is still ongoing.

• A warrant for arrest has been issued for a 50-year-old man, for assault with a weapon and mischief. On the afternoon of July 31, the accused was reported to have gotten into an argument with a woman at a residence on the 800-block 107th Street in North Battleford then became violent, throwing items at her, including a bottle, and slamming her hand in a doorway. The victim sustained minor injuries during the incident.

• Police called to a break and enter to a residence on the Saulteaux First Nation at 4 p.m. on Aug. 1. Upon arrival, police were advised by an occupant three suspects had entered his home and assaulted him and another occupant. One of the suspects was reported to have been armed with a golf club during the incident. Both victim reported injuries. On Aug. 2, a 33-year-old suspect was located, arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, assault, break and enter, mischief and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. A 32-year-old woman was also arrested in connection with this incident on Aug. 2 and later released. She is to appear in provincial court later this summer. A warrant is also currently pending for a male suspect in his thirties on similar charges in connection with this incident. The investigation is ongoing.

Three Break and Enter Investigations

• Call of a break and enter to a business at 12:40 a.m. on Aug. 2, on the 1900-block 101st Street. Suspect(s) stole a Grey 2010 Chevrolet Impala, which was located abandoned south of the town of Battleford approximately eight hours later.

• At 7 a.m. on July 31 on the 1300-block 99th Street, a male broke into a residence. The suspect was known to the occupant and fled after waking the homeowner up and yelling at them. The accused was located a short time later in another yard and arrested. A 20-year-old male was later released and set to appear in court on charges of break and enter and failing to comply with an undertaking.

Six Vehicle Thefts

• A vehicle previously reported stolen in late June was recovered on 5th Avenue in Battleford at approximately 8:30 p.m. on the July 27. Three suspected located inside were arrested. A 28-year-old woman and a youth were later released without charges. A 37-year-old male from Cut Knife was charged with possession of stolen property and was released from custody.

• A 21-year-old woman and a 17-year-old youth were arrested when found in possession of a stolen vehicle on a grid road in the Cochin district at 9:10 p.m. on Aug. 2. The 21 year old was later released on charges of possession of stolen property and impaired driving. The youth was released and is facing a single count of theft of a motor vehicle.

• A 25-year-old woman is facing a charge of theft of a motor vehicle after she was reported to have gone to a residence on Ross Crescent on the evening of July 31 and requested they call a cab for her. The suspect then decided to instead steal some car keys and take they victim’s vehicle. The vehicle was recovered the following day in Cut Knife the suspect was arrested. She was later released and is set to appear in court.

• 2014 Blue Dodge Journey with Saskatchewan licence 088 LAR reported stolen from the 1700-block St Laurent Drive ion the morning of Aug. 2.

• Police were called to a single vehicle accident south of Battleford shortly after 6 p.m. on July 28. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. An 18-year-old woman from Martensville is facing charges of impaired driving and driving while over .08.

Police attempted to complete a vehicle check on July 31 shortly after midnight on 101st Street and a vehicle was noted to have parked up on the curb. The male suspect driver fled from police upon approach and no pursuit was initiated at the time. The suspect was later positively identified and was arrested on Aug. 6. A 34 year old man was remanded on charges of flight, failing to comply with an undertaking x 2.

Nine Mischief investigations

• Call of a suspicious male who appeared to be trying to get into vehicles parked in an alley off 100th Street at 9:30 p.m. on July 28. The suspect was located by members and found to be in possession of a concealed weapon. Suspect tried to flee when placed under arrest but was apprehended quickly. A 34-year-old male is facing charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and resisting arrest.

• Call of a male in possession of a firearm at 5 p.m. on July 30 near a residence on the Moosomin First Nation. Suspect was located and a .22 calibre handgun was located and seized. A 28 man was arrested and remanded into custody on several weapons offences including carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with an undertaking.
