NORTH BATTLEFORD —  This Sunday will see a special service held to honour Queen Elizabeth II.

St. George's and St. Paul's Anglican Church invite the public to a commemorative service at 1302-99th St. at 11 a.m. Oct. 16.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, reigned for more than 70 years. She was Queen during the term of 12 Canadian prime ministers and nine Saskatchewan premiers.

Many Saskatchewanians have fond memories of Her Late Majesty's visits to the province — first as Princess Elizabeth in 1951 and then on five occasions as Queen, in 1959, 1973, 1978, 1987 and 2005.

According to Jason Quilliam, chief of Protocol for the Government of Saskatchewan, she had remained active to the end.

“She said when she was 21 years old … that no matter how long her life, whether it be short or long, that it would be devoted to at the time she said the Imperial Family, but we know that now mostly as the Commonwealth. I think that’s a promise she kept unequivocally.”
