BATTLEFORD — At the beginning of Battleford town council meeting Monday, Mayor Ames Leslie extended public condolences to the family of the Mahon family on the passing of Elizabeth “Betty” Mahon, who was the mother of former mayor and councillor Derek Mahon as well as Fred Mahon, a longtime contractor with the town of Battleford.
“On behalf of council, we will send our thoughts to the Mahon family,” said Leslie.
Also, Mahon extended his condolences to the community of Castor, Alta. The town lost a firefighter during a response to a motor vehicle rollover on the weekend; as well their fire chief was seriously injured in the incident.
“Thoughts and prayers go out to the community of Castor,” said Leslie, who added that “we cherish our firefighters” in Battleford as well.
In other news from the meeting, the town has appointed a new auditor for general accounting and auditing services.
Following meetings the previous week with the three interested firms that applied, council has appointed of St. Arnaud Pinsent Steman Chartered Professional Accountants out of Edmonton for a two-year appointment.
