Attempted robbery sends Battleford man to hospital

Battlefords RCMP are investigating an attempted robbery that sent an 80-year-old man to hospital with a suspected broken hip and cuts to his arm.

The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25 on 33rd Street in Battleford.

A male suspect believed to have been armed with a knife is reported to have assaulted an elderly man in an attempt to steal the victim’s truck. The suspect was unsuccessful and fled the area on foot after a brief struggle.

The victim was transported to hospital and is currently being treated.

The suspect is described as being a First Nations male in his early twenties with short black hair, wearing black shorts with a white stripe and a grey hoody. A photos and video were obtained of a person of interest in this matter.
