BATTLEFORD - A man facing charges in the death of Jeremy Ernest two years ago entered guilty pleas in the Court of King's Bench in Battleford July 31.
Trevor Alexander, 33, of Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation, who was charged with second-degree murder in the case, instead pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
He also pleaded guilty to an additional charge of aggravated assault.
Alexander appeared by video camera from Prince Albert Correctional Centre.
A publication ban is in effect on the details of the case until all the accused have gone through the court process.
Justice Krista Zerr scheduled Alexander's sentencing hearing to Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. at court in Battleford.
Meadow Lake RCMP previously reported that Ernest, 36, died on Waterhen Lake First Nation on Nov. 12, 2022. Police and paramedics had been called to a home at about 4:30 a.m. and found Ernest injured. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
