A Calgary man charged with the first-degree murder of a Saskatchewan man was denied bail – again.
Lawyers for Victor Fayiah Braima, 23, presented Calgary Provincial Court with a proposed release plan they wanted the Crown to approve. Those charged with murder don’t typically get bail while they are waiting for a trial but prosecutors – because of the COVID-19 pandemic - have released some defendants if they don’t pose a risk to the public.
Braima’s lawyers requested bail in March because of the COVID-19 pandemic but that bail request was denied April 7. Braima was also denied bail on Feb. 10 and a warrant for committal was filed Feb. 24.
Braima was arrested Feb. 7 in connection to the death of Sheldon Wolf, 47, of Carrot River, Sask.
Wolf was visiting Alberta and reported missing after his family last saw him when he left the Sandman Hotel in downtown Calgary on Feb. 2 at about 7 p.m. He never returned and a missing report was filed Feb. 3.Ìý
Calgary Police say that evidence connected to Wolf’s disappearance was found in Calgary’s Elliston Park on Feb. 4. This led police to a rural area north of Airdrie. Police haven’t revealed details of the evidence.

Calgary Police Service S/Sgt. Martin Schiavetta said they believe Wolf willingly met with individuals he had no previous relationship with before visiting Calgary.Ìý
Braima’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 21 in Calgary Provincial Court to set a date for a preliminary hearing.
