The second of two buildings moved were on to a new site Sept. 16 to begin the process of eventually baling and selling recycled newsprint and cardboard in Radisson.
Daryl Amey, a member of the Radisson Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Walter Kyliuk, town council and administrator Darren Beaudoin, have been the main proponents of this venture.
The Town has had tremendous help from Agrium and manager Daren Couture, who sold the buildings to the town for one dollar and also are giving a sizable donation towards insulating one of the buildings.
The Town has purchased a baler from the town of Outlook for $3500 which will be installed in November, then with Amey's expertise and mechanical knowledge, will hopefully have it modified and up and running for the winter months.
The Town will collect the recycling materials from spring to fall then town employee Sheldon Rothenburger will bale the recycled material during the winter. Once a semi-load is baled it will be offered to a broker to sell.
Outlook, which has purchased a larger baler, has given Radisson valuable technical advice. Their operation bales cardboard, newsprint and plastic for the town and 12 surrounding towns and villages.
In Radisson, Amey also looks after a compost site where people can drop off their lawn and garden refuse. Amey, who is involved with environmental and recycling issues, hopes that in a few years Radisson will reduce their waste by 50 per cent. Eventually Radisson may offer to bale at a fee for surrounding towns in the area.
