The following release is from SGI:
As we prepare to bid a not-so-fond farewell to 2020, your friends at SGI want to pass along a few tips for a safe New Year鈥檚 Eve.
This year, NYE is going to be different* for a lot of people, given the current public health orders and recommendations. For many of us, it will be less 鈥淩ockin鈥欌 and more 鈥淚鈥檓 already in my pajamas.鈥
*Parties are overrated anyway, amiright? There are SO MANY great television shows available鈥 why bother leaving home? Our recommendations for a NYE binge-fest are 鈥淨ueen鈥檚 Gambit鈥 on Netflix, 鈥淭ed Lasso鈥 on Apple TV+, 鈥淟ittle Fires Everywhere鈥 on Prime, 鈥淪tar Trek: Picard鈥 on Crave, and 鈥淗amilton鈥 on Disney+.
One thing that isn鈥檛 going to be different, however, is the fact that police are going to be out on the road tonight, looking for impaired drivers.
There will be checkstops in many places throughout the province and other forms of targeted enforcement.
If, for whatever reason, you are not staying home this evening, please ensure that you only get behind the wheel if you are sober.
If your New Year鈥檚 Eve plans involve leaving your house AND alcohol or drugs, please also make a plan for a safe ride home.
Those can include:
Getting a ride from a sober person in your household or bubble;
Taking a taxi, rideshare, designated driving service, or transit where available; or
Staying the night.
Getting arrested for impaired driving or 鈥 even worse -- causing a collision that injures or kills someone聽 would be a terrible way to start a new year.聽 Kick off 2021 by making good choices.
On behalf of all of us at SGI, have a very happy and safe evening, and here鈥檚 to a fresh start with 2021.
