Music, dancing and more music and dancing coming up next weekend.

The Battlefords 16th annual PolkaFest is Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20 at the Knights of Columbus Centre in North Battleford. The music runs from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday and from 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday. Dance to the Hamps and Dusty Rose. This is a popular event, so look into getting your tickets as soon as possible.

You'll need advance tickets if you're heading out to Blues and Brews Saturday, April 20 at the Western Development Museum. The doors open at 8 p.m. Enjoy the soulful saxophone of Saskatoon's Gregory Scott Edmunds, named a "Living Blues Master" by the Black American Blues Historical Society of Canada, and Koyote Blue, a Northwest Talent Contest winners amalgamation.

More music and dancing! Northern soul, stubble-funk - whatever you call it - it is Absofunkinlutely sure to be a good time Saturday, April 20 at the North Battleford Legion, downstairs in the Sloan Auditorium. The Saskatoon-based band Absofunkinlutely is a growing concern in the western Canadian music scene, and one of its members, Adam Streisel, has become a growing concern in the Battlefords, having taken a music teacher position at North Battleford Comprehensive High School. This band has visited the Battlefords in the past and packed them in. Their album, Blues Kid City, was nominated for a 2011 WCMA award for Best Urban Recording. As an added attraction, the evening will open with the young up-and-coming band The Cunning Men. The doors open at 8:30 p.m., presented by the Battlefords Jazz Society. (This is a licensed event, so funk fans under 19 will have to bring a parent or a guardian.)

Another musical evening will be held at Living Faith Chapel Saturday, April. 20. It's a Ladies' Garden Party. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and supper is at 6 p.m. Posters around the community announce "An inspirational evening of music, 'Our Favourite Things for Spring' presentation and a guest speaker."

You'll find eclectic entertainment and scrumptious food at St. Paul's Anglican Church Spring Fling. Things get underway at 6 p.m. Get in touch with the church for tickets. As the poster says, "A wonderful evening of food, fun and fellowship, what better way to start your dreams of summer?"

Maybe your taste runs to elk roast, headcheese, meatballs, fish and sausage. Then you should be at the Battlefords Wildlife Federation 68th Annual Smoker at the North Battleford Civic Centre. As always, there will be lots of displays as well. Everyone is welcome, but don't show up before 4 p.m.

Saturday, the 20th, is a busy day. There is also a bake sale and white elephant table at the St. George's Day Tea at St. George's Anglican Church in Battleford. It runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
