Winter hangs on past spring's deadline

Despite the fact the calendar tells us it is spring, snow continued to fall Monday morning. Although we have had enough thawing to make side roads slushy, no appreciable thawing has taken place.

An interesting feature this week was the full moon, which was a "super moon," because the moon was thousands of kilometers closer to the Earth than normal. A super moon has not been seen for more than 18 years and one will not be seen for that length of time again. I found that, on the night of March 18, the night before the full moon, the sky was much clearer than on the 19th and 20th.

Belated happy birthday to Anastasia Otteson who celebrated her fourth birthday March 19. She had a busy day, mostly playing with her friends who, along with their parents and her grandparents, were treated to a party with cake and all the trimmings by Anastasia's parents, Antonya and Wayne Otteson.

Dalton Young has completed his studies in Sacramento, Calif. He now holds an auto and collision repair technician diploma and hopes to be employed soon.

Dalton's parents, Kim and Darren Young, spent Christmas in Sacramento with him and with Kim's father, who lives there. Kim spent more time with Dalton and her father and then moved Dalton home when he completed his studies.

March 17 and 18, Kim attended a two-day conference in Saskatoon sponsored by the Saskatchewan Nursery and Landscape Association. Kim will soon be back to landscaping, that is as soon as the snow disappears.

Gully Gus says, "I feel sorry for school children today. It seems that history is being made faster than they can learn it."
