Persephone Theatre is bringing two plays to school students in the Northwest in April.
Through the support of the Saskatchewan Arts Board's Culture on the Go project, The Secret Life of the Octopus by Clem Martini and Wrecked by Chris Craddock will be performed in Neilburg, Cut Knife and North Battleford.
Performances will be in Neilburg Monday, April 11 at 9:10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday the production moves to Cut Knife, with a performance at 9:10 a.m.
In North Battleford the theatre troop will visit three schools: Holy Family School, April 12, 1:35 p.m.; Connaught Community School, April 13 at 9:10 a.m.; and St. Mary Community School, April 14 at 9:20 a.m.
The Secret Life of the Octopus is full of puppets and imagination. When Leah and Willis are forced to serve detention in their school's gloomy science room, they reluctantly meet and then become attached to a mysterious eight-legged occupant of the corner aquarium.
Framed by Lyle and Buddy's attempts to put together a video on the subject of substance abuse for a local contest, Wrecked shows the topic from the points of view of all involved. Craddock is a playwright who knows how to speak to teens and pulls no punches.
Persephone Theatre received a grant from the Saskatchewan Arts Boards' Culture on the Go program to tour the two plays with 72 performances in 44 communities across the province, reaching more than 12,000 young people.
