Speckle Park founders honoured at Agribition

Although temperatures were lower during the past week, there was not much wind, so we enjoyed some fine days, especially Sunday. Sunday was a beautiful sunny day. The hoar frost, which has been on the trees for the past week, shone in the brilliant sun.

The community has been keeping people busy with pre-Christmas activities; the tree festival in Maidstone, meetings and shopping.

Christine Pike, her sister Maureen Bexson of Strome, Alta. and Greg Melchior attended Agribition in Regina last week. They displayed three Speckle Park cattle, one of which was a bull owned by Christine.

The purpose of the trip was to honour the late Mary Lindsay and Bill and Eileen Lamont for their work in creating the Speckle Park breed of cattle. This was done by putting up an attractive display, including pictures.

Many visitors stopped by the display. Among them were: the grandson of some of the Black Angus breeders from whom Bill and Eileen had bought bulls, a nephew of the man who bought three steers from the Lamonts that placed second in the "pen of three steers" category at the Royal Winter Fair, and a man who wondered if he was related to Bill. He said the relationship was from a couple of hundred years ago and he belongs to the Scottish clan Lamont. All in all, it was an enjoyable, busy and worthwhile week.

Gully Gus says, "It's what you learn after you know it all that counts."
