Mitch Graw and Blair Mahon, John Paul II Collegiate students, recently returned from an exciting week in Ottawa where they attended the Forum For Young Canadians in the week leading up to the call for an election.

FFYCbrings together students from across Canada to gain a deeper understanding of the Constitution of Canada, of government processes and of the meaning and responsibilities of citizenship. The students participated in a wide variety of activities in and around parliament, both observational and interactive.

For Mahon, it was especially exciting as aside from receiving a "Second Language Award" for being able to actively and effectively participate in discussions as a bilingual student, he was able to meet one-on-one with MP Ken Dryden. As a goalie for the Battlefords AAA midget Stars it was a specialtreat to meet the NHL goaltending legend. Dryden signed Mahon's copy of Dryden's book The Game, while they discussed everything from goaltending past and present to Dryden's memory of the Battlefords' own former NHLers Dale Hoganson and Greg Sheppard.
