Maidstone Gully gears up for busy year

Maidstone Gully Multiple 4-H Club has recently kicked off a 2010-11 4-H year. Oct. 4, at Milleton Hall, the first general meeting was held and Nov. 1, also at Milleton Hall, was a second general meeting.

This year the club has 15 members and seven leaders in six projects. The projects this year are Light Horse, Young Horse, Beef, Cooking, Woodworking and Cloverbud. There are four new members, Chris Danychuk, Wyatt Murphy, Doug Sroka and Kenny Sroka.

Last summer some members went on the 4-H trip to Prince Edward Island. They stayed for 10 days. During this time they toured the province seeing sights such as the Magnetic Hill, went bridge jumping, and spent a day at a water park. They also travelled from tip to tip of the island, ate fresh lobster, went to Cow's Ice Creamery, and saw the band Down With Webster perform.

With a new year comes a new executive. This year president is Rylea Eggeson along with junior president Megan Danychuk. Treasurer is Meckenzie Dekker and secretary is Kassidy Doepker. This year's phoning chairperson in Wyatt Murphy. Senior district representatives are Morgan Doepker and Jordi Skolrood along with junior district representative Savannah Carson. The reporters for this year are Angie Boggust, Tierra and Hannah Bedwell. Mary-Ann Carson is once again general leader and Deiedra Blyth is assistant general leader.

The social committee has decided on many wonderful activities such as making wreaths, gingerbread houses and other decorations Nov. 15 and a Christmas party Dec. 11. Members will also be doing numerous other fun activities throughout this 4-H year including swimming and skating.

The finance committee is organizing fundraisers. There was a battery drive Nov. 11. Other fundraisers include a raffle at Achievement Day, the annual Cowboy Poetry Night, and a Mom's Pantry party. Members are currently selling Horsing Around raffle tickets. To purchase raffles tickets to support the 4-H club call 306-895-4227 or contact any 4-H member.

Members are excited to start the 2010-11 4-H year. They will try to make this year as successful as the last. Members hope this one will be am enjoyable and fun experience as well as an educational one for all 4-H members.
