Mrs. Kerr-Goodfellow and the SRC are encouraging everyone at Neilburg Composite School to wear Pink March 1. There is a Canada-wide Anti-Bullying Campaign taking place that day. Wearing pink shows support for this cause. The SRC will be giving away pink armbands or bandanas to help with this initiative. Everyone in the whole school is invited to stand up against bullying by wearing pink.
Feb. 10 and 11, the SRC sold Crush pop for a dollar a can and designated them to be given to their "crushes." These drinks were then delivered on Valentine's Day to the people others had "crushes" on. Also on Valentine's Day, any high school students who filled out a Matchmaker form, could learn who their perfect match might be for only $2. Sure beats online dating.
NCS will also be sponsoring a spring book fair March 8 to 10. The theme is "Read Every Day/Lead a Better Life - A Child's Right to Read." Myron Wiebe was the guest speaker at Manitou Evangelical Free Church Feb. 13 as both Pastor Mel Letkeman and Pastor Barry Peters were away at a weekend retreat for clergy and their wives.
Manitou Evangelical Free Church will be hosting a creation presentation by Steve Lockert Sunday, March 27. Lockert has a Bachelor of Arts degree, as well as a Bachelor of Education with a biology/psychology major and a math minor from the University of Saskatchewan. He taught high school biology and Christian ethics classes at Vanier Collegiate in the Moose Jaw Catholic System. His primary teaching responsibilities included senior sciences, biology and Christian ethics.
Lockert believed and taught origins from a strictly Darwinian perspective that had little place for God as creator. In 1975, after hearing a talk on creation by an Alberta science teacher, he began to question his teaching of origins without giving reference to evidence that pointed to the divine plan and purpose behind it all. After much investigation and soul searching, he began to teach a two model approach including a discussion of the evidences that point to God as the designer and master engineer behind all things.
Lockert's personal views have "evolved" over the past 35 years as he read, questioned and studied. Textbook evolution where God, if he existed at all, was at best remotely involved in making our world, seemed no longer tenable, because the evidence of design is everywhere we look.
He and his wife are now living in Saskatoon. They have four children and 10 grandchildren. All are welcome to come and meet Mr. Lockert and to ask him questions regarding his findings and his presentation.
