Guest speakers at Hillsdale RM spring ratepayers' meeting

Sincere sympathy is extended to the friends and family of Garry James Poppleton, who passed away suddenly in Saskatoon on Sunday, April 3 at the age of 68. He was born in Cut Knife in October 1942.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the friends and family of Garry James Poppleton, who passed away suddenly in Saskatoon on Sunday, April 3 at the age of 68. He was born in Cut Knife in October 1942. Garry's memorial service was held at the Neilburg Community Hall on Friday, April 8, with Rev. Lorna Brick officiating. The eulogy was given by Bruce Pugh. The organist was Joan Gibb and the hymns were: I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry, In The Bulb There is a Flower, and God Be With You Till We Meet Again. Son-in-law, Sami Ruohio was the urn bearer with the interment in the East Manitou Cemetery. Left to mourn are his beloved wife, Margie, and his three daughters Kari (Martin Berg), Dina (Travis Smith) and Tara (Sami Ruohio). He also leaves two grandchildren: Katja and Tayte (TJ) Ruohio.

The Rural Municipality of Hillsdale No. 440 held their 2011 spring ratepayers' meeting April 5 in the Neilburg Community Hall. Guest speakers for the evening were Allen Hewko, who spoke about surface rights and the Synergy Wealth Management Team who expounded upon the topic "Estate Planning and Farm Succession."?

The Neilburg Composite School grad class held a fruit and cookie dough sale recently. Pick-up was March 28.??The Grade 12 class took their year-end field trip March 30. They visited the Mayfield Dinner Theatre for brunch and a performance of 39 Steps, a play with 150 characters, acted by 4 people! After the play, the group headed to West Edmonton Mall for swimming and fun in Galaxyland.

Mrs. Deb MacLean came to NCS to discuss career tests with the Grade 11 students March 28. The Grade 10 and 11 students will be attending the "Try-a-Trade" conference in Lloydminster May 4. The previous evening there is also a Job Fair for those interested in trying to obtain apprentice placements or a career with on-the-job training.?

Drama 20 and 30 were busily preparing for their annual performance. The play is called Boarding House and is humorous and witty. The dessert theatre presentation was held April 13.?The Wellness In Manitou gym is now back in use, after suffering some water damage in January.

The local 4-H members are collecting used batteries and Ivomec boxes. Contact Karen Brockoff or Holly Prystupa if you have any items to donate.

The Marsden Jubilee School Community Council presented a non-alcoholic Easter Supper and Family Dance April 1. After a ham and perogie supper, there was a gymnastics demonstration, with the dance following. There was even a visit from the Easter bunny! All proceeds from the event went towards school programming.
