Feb. 25, some members of the Sutherland family helped Eva Sutherland celebrate her 90th birthday at Pine Island Lodge in Maidstone.

Eva's life in Waseca and area was a buys one. Besides raising a family of nine, she spent many years as the "mailman" for the Walter and Forest Bank districts, delivering the mail with team and sleigh in the winter and travelling difficult roads in summer. In those days the "mailman" also brought groceries on request and took cans of cream back to the station in Waseca. I am sure she could write a book of her adventures while doing her job.

That is just a part of Eva's many jobs around the Waseca area.

We wish her happiness in the days, weeks and years to come.

Trish Markevich and her family travelled to Kimberley, B.C. for a skiing holiday.

Bruce and Shirley James and sons, Luke and Chase, opted to go somewhere "warm."

Keith and Debra Sutherland and family spent 10 days in Hawaii.

Ruth Sutherland and daughter, Carol, visited Ruth's granddaughter Kimberly in Calgary for a few days. It was great event as she was able to meet her new and first great-grandchild, Kimberley's first child born Jan 27. Congratulations, Ruth, on becoming a great-grandmother.

Visiting with Kelly and Bobbie Doepker recently were Kelly's parents, Bea and Allan Deopker, of Annaheim.

Sandra Sutherland returned on the weekend from days spent with her sister, Grace Flewell in Apache Junction, Ariz. They spent some of their time sightseeing in Yuma, at Sedona where they enjoyed the beautiful scenery and red rock unique to this area; Tortilla Flats, an old mining town with an interesting museum; and lost Dutchman Gold Mine where they went into the mine and heard its history.

Did you know the Earth has one natural satellite, the moon? Today there are scores of artificial satellites orbiting the Earth with the purpose of collecting valuable information to benefit civilization mostly in the fields of communications, weather analysis, navigation and mapping.
