Farmers' market produces Christmas sale

Borden Farmers' Market held a successful Christmas sale Dec. 4 in the Borden Community Centre, with 20 vendors selling their wares in the main hall and 10 in the seniors' room. The Grad 2011 class sold lunch.

Borden Farmers' Market held a successful Christmas sale Dec. 4 in the Borden Community Centre, with 20 vendors selling their wares in the main hall and 10 in the seniors' room. The Grad 2011 class sold lunch. Raffle prizes went to Tony Beaudry, Dave Buckingham, Dianne Sylvester, Doreen Parker, Randy Swan, June Nichol, Kristen & Corinne Szwydky, Peter Thiessen, Kelly Wall, Chloey Redhead, Eileen Petrun, Gene Borcher, Leanne Sargent, Heather Schroeder, Joyce Orchard, Chantelle Kunz and Myrna Roberts. The farmers' market gave away five $10 cash prizes to purchasers and these went to Ron Saunders, Stan Foster and Lorne Anderson of Borden and Brian Digby and Natalie Stevenson of Saskatoon. From the trade fair, door prizes went to Elaine Parsons, Ilene Youchezin and Ann Kohut. The farmers' market made donations of $250 to the Borden Fire Dept. and $36 to the Grad 2011 class.

Dec. 11 Santa will be coming to Borden and Radisson. In Borden he will be at the Co-op Hardware from 2 to 4 p.m. with candy bags for kids, door prizes and refreshments. In Radisson, Santa will arrive on Main Street in a sleigh drawn by Stu Walton's team at 2 p.m. After the candy bags donated by the Radisson Fire Department are given out, Stu will hitch up to a hayrack and give rides while the Royal Purple Tea and Bake sale is going on in the hall. In the evening the Swimming Pool Committee is holding a ham and turkey bingo in the hall at 7 p.m.

Dec. 12, the Borden Dance Club is holding a Christmas recital in the Community Centre at 7 p.m. and in Radisson the Lutheran Church is holding its annual Carol, Candles and Cookies program at 7 p.m. Food bank donations are accepted at both programs.

The Borden Drama Club presented two plays Dec. 2 in the Borden Community Centre when they held their dessert theatre. Emcee was Tamara Tkazcyk and the plays were directed by Mr. Morris and Ms. Shaw.

Controlling Interest by Wayne Rawley is about four successful young businessmen gathering for their weekly meeting at which Jack reveals he would like to add to the agenda an important negotiation with some successful young businesswomen waiting in the outer office. The men realize this meeting might just alter their lives forever, and because all the men are actually only eight years old.

Acting were George Hembery, Michael Crabb, Catlin Renaud, Brandon Joynt/Skillingstad, Jesse Wensley, Nicole Tracksell, Brooklyn Gader and Kristie Hembery.

Individual talent showcased was Nikita Pascoe doing an interpretive dance to My Only Wish This Year. Avery Fairbrother played guitar and sang Sweet Child of Mine followed by Tom Wensley doing stand-up comedy.

The second play was Ties That Bind by Eric Coble. The play makes fun of the struggles every person goes through in life. Actors were Emma Hebig, Jasmine Besugly, Deidre Hebig and Kim Young.

George Hembery has been growing his red curly hair for over two years and Dec. 16, at the Christmas concert, it is going to be cut off to go for wigs for young cancer patients and donations are being accepted for cancer research.

The Borden Lions Festival of Christmas Music was held Dec. 5 in the Borden Community Centre and MC was Lion John Buswell.

The Grade 3 and 4 quartet of Colby, Zach, Danika and Brooke, with Mr. George directing, recited then sang action songs Christmas Tango and Santa followed by Peter Thiessen singing I Am Glad I Know Who Jesus Is and Greatest Story Ever Told, accompanied on piano by his wife Mary.

Redberry Grass - David and Sam Derbawka and their mom Marlene - played and sang Beautiful Star of Bethlehem, Little Toy Train and What Child is This?, then Kendall Redhead sang Heirloom, My Grown Up Christmas List and Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree.

The Anglican Church choir sang two numbers, then Glenn on guitar and Joan Julseth on keyboard sang I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day, Let It Snow and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Bob and Ann Wardhaugh played accordion and drum along with Sean O'Connor on button accordion then drum, played Lord of the Dance and Bob sang Wicksford Carol and The Wren.

The Wensley Family - Clive and Gladys along with granddaughters Mylandra and Teah and great-granddaughters Dakota and Drew, with Mylandra playing flute - sang Away in a Manger and Silent Night. Archie's Angels (Lions) with Bob on keyboard, sang Today I'm Going to Try and Change the World, Song for a Winter's Night and My Heart Shall Sing.

The evening closed with the Lions leading everyone in singing a number of familiar carols then beverages and goodies were served by the Church Youth Group.

The board of the Borden Care Home held an information meeting on Dec. 2 in the Borden Seniors' Room with close to 50 in attendance. Chair of the board Craig Hamilton, outlined the plans for phase two of the expansion, which will be five double rooms with their own bathrooms for couples or sharing. The expansion has to be at least 20 feet from the present building with a walking corridor between and fire doors at each end. The present kitchen and dining room will be used for both buildings.

Excel Construction will start on the project in the New Year, targeting for completion by the end of June.

The board has the funds to build, due to a few large donations, but still will need funding to begin operating and are asking the public for tax deductible donations.

Jim and Sharon Block are proud grandparents of of a new granddaughter Chanel Rylee born Nov. 14 to Ryan and Rachelle Dueck of Warman.
