Arlee Lumgair travelled to Edmonton for a few days last week to visit with former Waseca residents Carol and Don Hamelin. While there they attended and enjoyed the Laurie Morgan Show.

Recently we learned of the death of a former resident Bernice Barclay. Bernice, along with her parents, D.J. (Red) and Caroline Wenger and four siblings, arrived in Waseca in 1944 to take over management of the Waseca Hotel. At that time the hotel was heated by a huge coal and wood furnace and electricity was supplied by a local power plant.
After receiving her education at the two-room brick school in the village, she trained as a registered psychiatric nurse at Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford. She and her husband, Walter Barclay, were married in 1953 and they made their home in North Battleford where they raised their family and where Bernice continued to work until her retirement in 1987.
During her early life, Bernice and her family were active in all aspects of life in the Waseca community. They were noted for their friendliness, hospitality and participation.
We extend our sympathy to the family members and friends. Bernice was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her four siblings, as well as other relatives. She died April 26 at the age of 80 years. She will be interred at Waseca Cemetery at a future date where she will rest with other members of the Wenger family.
From the Waseca Herald, Nov. 1, 1907 - Part of the material is now on the ground for the erection of a freight shed and passenger platform at this place. This prompt action on the part of the CNR authorities is very much appreciated by the public, who feel that their interests are being looked after by the company.
