A baby shower was held March 31 in the Borden Seniors Centre for new baby Kemper John, son of Justin and Rachel Block of Borden. Darlene Gossen was emcee. She introduced the head table - Rachel, Kemper and Jeannette Block. Then there were readings, Babies Come into This World and Babies Don't Keep. Rachel and Jeanette had to smell five diapers with different chocolate bars smeared inside and try to guess what bar they were smelling. A large baby boot, made of diapers and many other baby items, was shown around and everyone wrote down as many of the items as they could remember. The prize for most items remembered went to Rita Smith and Elizabeth Derksen. Darlene read Baby in the Womb and Mom the Angel before the gifts were presented, opened and shown for all to see. Rachel thanked everyone for coming and for the many beautiful and useful gifts. A potluck lunch and beverages were enjoyed by all.

Radisson Swimming Pool was the recipient of proceeds from three days of a play performance - 18 Cows and a Corpse - April 1 dress rehearsal, April 2 dinner theatre with roast beef supper and April 3 dessert theatre.

The play was a four act mystery comedy set in Radson, Saskatchewan, on the banks of the North River, in May of 1955, and the scene was in the general store/post office/telephone exchange/ boarding house located on the highest ground in the town. Farmer Brown was losing his cows to drowning and then a body was also found in the river. The district agriculturist John Wett was on hand along with the storekeeper Hilda Sump, her family, a Mountie, a nun and some gossipy ladies. The coroner Dr. Bovine had to be called in to help solve the mystery. Between acts the actors mingled with the crowd and the audience had to write down their guesses as to the murderer and why he/she did it. Supper and dessert were served between acts. The suspense kept building and finally it was revealed who had done the deed - the District Agriculturalist from Mississauga, Ontario whohad known the deceased, Stan Orlick, a salesman from Toronto, and was jealous of his money, girls and job. The actors read some of the answers handed in and two winners were picked for a special at a hair salon in Dalmeny.

With the present building at 5,000 square feet, the addition and the walkway to join the two buildings will increase the total size to approximately 7,500 sq. feet. Excel owner Scott Sutherland hopes to have the expansion completed in the next five to six months, provided the weather co-operates.

The Borden Lions Club have awarded a $500 scholarship to each of two students from the Langham area, Briar Kane and Shelby Ruel who are both taking post-secondary training. Briar is in her final year at the University of Regina for her Bachelor of Social Work. Shelby is in instrumentation engineering at NAIT in Edmonton. She is the only girl in a class of 30 (one of five in a year of 90 students) and she hopes to be a role model for women entering the engineering field. In 2009 - 2010 no one from Borden or Langham applied for the scholarship and so the Lions Club awarded two this year.
