Tisdale Lions park opens sport court rejuvenation project

The Tisdale Lions Park receives sport court facelift.

TISDALE – The Town of Tisdale held the grand opening of a new sport court rejuvenation project on July 24.

At the Tisdale Lion’s spray park, the committee held their grand opening of the Tisdale Lion L’s and Lion’s Park. Stacy Thiessen, Regional Recreation Practitioner programmer said the pad was originally asphalt and only had four basketball hoops with no nets. There was no fencing around the area and the ground had uneven playing areas.

“The equipment needed updating and the court was not often used,” said Thiessen.

The total cost of the project was approximately $135,000. The new rejuvenated pad gives the park new options with the updated surface.

“The area was quite large, so we could expand the footprint slightly and add a pickleball court. We also felt there was space to allow for both hockey nets and basketball. This will encourage children to work together to share the space while doing both sports.  It is very possible to be playing a game of horse and having kids practice their hockey shot at the same time.”

This project was spearheaded by the Tisdale Lion L’s and Tisdale Lions with support from local government, community groups and businesses:

The Lion L’s and Lions Club have more to do yet to complete the project. The lines for pickleball will be added and there is a plan to add wheelchair accessible play equipment and benches if possible, said Thiessen.
