TISDALE — A Tisdale group that aims to promote reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous residents is planning a series of event to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Reconciliation Tisdale has partnered with the Community Falkon Theatre to show the film Bones of Crows. The story follows the main character, a Cree woman who survives residential school to continue her family's fight against systematic starvation, racism and sexual abuse.
There will be showing at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, Saturday, Sept. 30 and Sunday, Oct. 1. On the film's opening night on Friday Sept. 29, Elder Margret Harrison of Métis Nation – Saskatchewan Eastern Region II will conduct an opening prayer at 7:45 p.m. The Beeland Co-op has sponsored this event.
Katie Adair, committee member of Reconciliation Tisdale, said they have also partnered with Northeast Education Ealy Childhood Intervention Program (NEECIP) for a Truth and Reconciliation story stroll. The book is titled With Our Orange Hearts, by Phyllis Webstad. The story stroll is currently located at Tisdale Elementary School. On Wednesday, Sept. 27 it will be relocated to St. Therese Park and will be there until Monday, Oct. 2.
Another partnership, with the Wapiti Library in Tisdale, will result in a Reconciliation Week Colouring Contest. The contest runs until Monday, Oct. 2. Finished colouring entries will be displayed at the library. Winners receive prizes donated by Lacroix Drugs.
