MELFORT - At the Melfort Mustangs annual general meeting on Aug 27, a few board members decided to leave the board this season.

President of the Melfort Mustangs hockey club, Jordan Lee, will be stepping down after eight seasons.

Lee was president for three seasons, taking over the role from Chad Elliot after being vice president for the last two seasons when Elliot was president. Before these roles, Jordan was the secretary for two seasons and a director for one.

“Lee took on the role of president as the COVID-19 pandemic was coming to an end and has played a major part in getting the club to what we see today. His level of commitment to the club did not go unnoticed by the rest of the board and the community around the Mustangs,” said the Melfort Mustangs news release.

“The Melfort Mustang organization would like to send out a huge thank you to Jordan for his contributions and the endless time he gave to the club. We will miss him but will surely see him around the rink in the coming season.”

The Mustangs board had a few others move on as well. Jamie and Darin Placsko have stepped away after many years with the club. Jamie joined in 2011 and Darin the year after. Marley Seymour stepped down after two seasons as she moved her family home to Manitoba.

Wayne Love was tragically lost shortly after the Melfort Mustangs 2023/2024 season came to an end. Kelsey Pederson moved on to take on the Director of Marketing role with the Mustangs. Pederson will be around the rink and in the community, and at the Mustang office.

The Melfort Mustangs went 38-14-3 and capped the 2023-2024 season off as the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League champion against the Flin Flon Bombers. This was the Mustangs' first championship since 2016.
