ZENON PARK — Zenon Park is receiving funding to improve its potable water storage.
It is one of nine water infrastructure projects in Saskatchewan that's receiving more than $6.9 million from the federal and provincial governments.
This work will involve rehabilitating the village's existing water tower, replacing the de-icing circulation system and other associated works, said Lisa Leblanc, Zenon Park's administrator. She said said that this system has worked really well for the village for many years.
The water tower was built in the 1960s and restored around 30 years ago.
Leblanc said that they had issues with the water freezing in the winter months and that a new circulation pump will ensure the quality of water won’t be disturbed. They will empty the water out of the tower, give it a good cleaning, fix any weak spots and restore the inside of the tower.
The funding of the water infrastructure projects, which comes from the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada’s Infrastructure Program, was announced by Terry Duguid (on behalf of federal housing minister Sean Fraser) and provincial government relations minister Don McMorris.
"Investments in green infrastructure are key to building vibrant and sustainable communities," Duguid said. "The investments we are making today will improve existing water infrastructure by providing reliable services to community members. This work will ensure the longevity of the infrastructure and better safeguard the health and environment of our citizens for years to come."
The federal government is investing $3.8 million in these projects, while the Government of Saskatchewan is investing $3.1 million. Recipient communities are contributing $2.5 million and are responsible for any additional costs.
