HUMBOLDT — A Humboldt resident has been recognized by the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletics Association for his commitment to volleyball officiating and to the development of volleyball officials.
Kevin Garinger received an Outstanding Official award from the SHSAA.
"Kevin is himself an accomplished volleyball official, having worked within and outside of Saskatchewan at many high profile events including numerous SHSAA Provincial Championships, but he also takes and relishes every opportunity to work within [Horizon Central Athletic Association] schools during the tournament circuit when possible," said a media release from the Horizon Central Athletic Association.
"Kevin also acts as an instructional facilitator, and thus administers officials development clinics. He mentors many officials and is always available when questions arise. Most recently, he has assumed the role of HCAA volleyball referee-in-chief."
In his day job, Garinger serves as the director of education for the Horizon School Division.
"To find the time to fill the roles of official, instructor, mentor and referee-in-chief for the District speaks volumes to his commitment to and support of the value of athletics in the HCAA," the HCAA release said.
