TISDALE — Fifty competitors will be participating at the fourth annual Tisdale Cutting Horse Show.
The two-day show event, sanctioned by the Saskatchewan Cutting Horse Association, takes place July 1 and 2 at the van Haastert arena at Allanville Farms southeast of Tisdale.
Cutting is a western-style equestrian competition in which a horse and rider work together before a judge or panel of judges to demonstrate the horse's athleticism and ability to handle cattle.
The competition requires the horse and rider to separate a cow from its herd and keep it separated for a determined period of time.
The horses are bred for the sport. They are a stock horse, one that is particularly suited for working with livestock – generally cattle, but also sheep. A desired quality of the horse is the ability to anticipate the moves of the cattle it is working with.
The show starts at 10 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday and is free for spectators to come enjoy. A food truck will also be on site both days.
