Policy reviews, draft financial statements and a draft annual report were discussed at the North East School Division's board of education meeting on Nov. 21.

MELFORT — Money from the sale of Broadway School in Melfort will be used to help fund the construction of the Carrot River Valley School.

The topic was discussed by the North East School Division's board of education at its Nov. 21 meeting.

From the sale of the school, the division received $50,556. Due to the provincial education ministry's rules, the money can only be used as a portion of the ministry's when a major capital project takes place. The board approved using the funds for the Carrot River Valley School.

The board also reviewed its discipline, family life and sex education, and distance learning policies. Stacy Lair, director of education, said that in terms of parent notifications regarding the health curriculum, the NESD had policy prior to the government's announcement that teachers inform parents of upcoming materials in those subjects.

As well, the 2022-23 draft financial statements were reviewed. MNP presented all the financial documents to the board. The board approved the draft documents. Lair said there were no notes of concerns by the auditor and that points to the good work of the finance department.

The board also approved the 2022-23 draft of the annual report. The complete report is made available once it is approved in January from the Ministry of Education.
