Arborfield fuel theft escalates, suspect rams police cars

Police said the suspect attempted to steal fuel from a large fuel tank, chased a property representative with a vehicle, rammed two police vehicles, struck an unoccupied parked truck and resisted arrest.

Carrot River RCMP dealt with an incident where fuel was stolen from an Arborfield property.

ARBORFIELD — An 29-year-old is being charged after an incident where gas was stolen from an Arborfield property and two police vehicles were rammed.

Saskatchewan RCMP said the crime took place on Dec. 7.

At around 1:30 p.m., Carrot River RCMP received a report of an attempted theft in Arborfield. Their investigation determined the suspect attempted to steal fuel from a large fuel tank.

"He was confronted by a property representative," a release from the Saskatchewan RCMP said. "The suspect then began chasing the property representative in a vehicle."

Police said the representative was not physically injured.

Officers located the suspect in a parked vehicle in Arborfield and approached it, RCMP said.

"The suspect then rammed two police vehicles and struck an unoccupied parked truck. The officers in the rammed police vehicles received minor injuries."

Police said the vehicle came to a stop a short time later and the suspect was taken into custody.

"He assaulted the officers while he was being arrested, and initially resisted when officers attempted to place him in cells. He refused to comply with a breath test officers demanded."

Nipawin RCMP assisted in this investigation.

As a result, a 29-year-old Fort Saskatchewan, Alta. man is charged with:

  • assaulting a peace officer
  • failing to stop for a peace office
  • failing to comply with breath test
  • resisting a peace officer
  • operating a conveyance in a manner that was dangerous to the public

He is scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on Dec. 11.
