The family of Zita Maier of Humboldt, SK, is saddened to announce her passing on Friday, September 28, 2012, at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK, at the age of 76 years. She died peacefully with loved ones by her side. The eldest of seven children, Zita, was born at Humboldt on July 19, 1936, to Ludwig and Sophie (nee Lermer) Maier of the Muenster district. She received her primary education at Banner School, and attended High School at the St. Peter's Monastery School in Muenster and St. Ursula's Academy in Bruno. Zita then entered the Ursuline Convent at Bruno and began her religious life. She attained her Education Degree and taught in numerous locations from Vancouver to Ottawa. Zita earned her Master's Degree from the University of Collegeville, Minnesota in music and church liturgy and later taught summer classes at Newman College in Edmonton. Zita enriched many lives conducting music workshops, foundations courses and sharing her liturgical expertise. In 2006, she retired in Humboldt and became a member of St. Peter's Chorus which she thoroughly enjoyed. Her activities became reduced in 2009 when her health began to fail. Zita is survived by two brothers: Norbert (Audrey) Maier of Humboldt, and Garry (Kathy) Maier of Saskatoon; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Ludwig and Sophie (nee Lermer) Maier; two sisters and one brother (all in infancy): Rita, Bernadette and Ferdinand; one brother, Wilfred Maier; sister-in-law, Genevieve Maier; and by nephew Jason Maier. The Prayer Service for Zita was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, on Friday, October 5, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., led by Nestor Trach with music ministry provided by Dolores Hinz and Sr. Lenore Moldenhauer, OSU. Scripture readers were Sr. Alexis Taphorn, OSU, and Sr. Miriam Spenrath, OSU. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., concelebrated by Abbot Peter Novecosky, OSB, who gave the homily, Fr. Greg Roth, Fr. Demetrius Wasylyniuk, OSB, and Rev. Msgr. Ken Miller. Others taking part were: Annette Maier, crossbearer; Andy Wilson and Leo Altrogge, acoyltes; Isabel Leaderhouse and Sr. Maureen Maier, OSU, scripture readers; Lisa, Erica, Julie and Lenore Maier, intentions; Norbert and Garry Maier, giftbearers. Honorary pallbearers were "everyone who shared in Zita's life". Active pallbearers were Matthew, Chris, Dave, Jerome, Vern and Lorne Maier. Interment will take place at St. Scholastica R.C.
