The death of Mrs. Vivian Laurel Poppl (nee Allen), age 78 years of Humboldt, occurred on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Humboldt District Hospital. Vivian was born on September 6, 1936 in the Daylesford district to Bernard and Virginia (nee Baron) Allen. Vivian attended school in Cornwall, ON for three years and completed her education in St. Brieux. She married Ludwig Poppl and they farmed in the Daylesford area, where they raised their family of six children. The first years were tough with no modern conveniences, but they worked together as a family and persevered. In 1965, they were so thankful to get power and water put in. She grew a huge vegetable garden and canned hundreds of jars of produce each year. Vivian also hatched chicks which she then sold. From 1981 – 1985, she worked as a Special Care Aid at Melfort Pioneer Lodge. Besides her garden, she loved her flowers and enjoyed crafts, especially knitting. Vivian enjoyed camping trips with her family when the children were young and especially loved their Christmas celebrations when she would host up to 50 people in their home. Ludwig Ìýpassed away in 1996 and she remained on the farm until November 2000 when she and Patricia moved to Humboldt, which would be their home until the present. While living in Humboldt, she made many new friends and enjoyed volunteering at the Good Neighbour Store. Vivian will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her six children, 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren: Patricia Allen of Humboldt; Ryan Poppl of Daylesford and daughter Brooke; Elgin Poppl of Borden and family, Dianne (Darren) Pederson, Gerry (Lisa), Raymond (Ashley) and Daniel; Kelly (Laurie) Poppl of Lake Lenore and family, Lee, Allan, and Anita; Rob Poppl of Saskatoon and family, Nathan, Daylin (fiancé Shannon), Regan and Landon; and Lyndon (Pam) Poppl of St. Brieux and family, Cody, Brandon and Logan; eight siblings: Edward (Faye) Allen of Moncton, NB; Terry Allen of Fenlon, ON; Janet (Lee) Hamilton, Darlene Allen, and Betty Allen, all of Red Deer, AB; Charles (Joanne) Allen of Clareshome, AB; Donald (Laurie) Allen of Victoria, BC and Shirley Allen of Red Deer; sister-in-law, Dianne Allen of Red Deer; Ìýbrother-and-sister-in-law, Cal (Dorothy) Tallis of Regina; and many nieces and nephews. Vivian was predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Virginia Allen, husband, Ludwig Poppl and siblings: Lyle (Rita) Allen, Edna (Isadore) Ilg, Della (Jack) Woods and Jim Allen. The Funeral Service for Vivian was held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt, officiated by Rev. Brenda Curtis. Interment will follow at a later date in the family cemetery in the Daylesford district. Memorial donations in Vivian’s memory may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.
