SMITH - It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of their mother, grandmother and great grandmother Violet Ileen Smith 93 years on Friday, June 8, 2012 at her residence Quill Plains Centennial Lodge Watson surrounded by her family. Violet was born on September 15, 1918 in LeRoy, SK to Andrew and Agnes (nee Peterson) Stein. She obtained her education in LeRoy and then headed to Saskatoon where she was employed in the domestic profession as many women of that era were. Violet returned to LeRoy and married Jim Smith on August 12, 1944. Together they began their farming career in the LeRoy area. They were blessed with four children two girls and two boys. She worked side by side with her husband in the daily operations of a farm. She also maintained a large vegetable garden and enjoyed her flower garden. She loved nature especially butterflies and birds they brought much inner peace, so much so that she decorated her home with cut outs of butterflies and birds to surround herself and others with beauty. These pictures were found in her favorite magazine "Birds and Blooms". Violet was a very artistic person her talents were shared with her family through pottery, drawing, painting of pictures and writing poems to name a few. She was a scrap booker before scrap booking was a fad she cutout many items from catalogues and pasted them in her school notebooks to make beautiful keepsakes for her family to cherish now. Violet loved quilting and was awarded many prizes for her creations. She was very community minded and always did her part to help out. She was a member of the Co-op Guild, UCW and the LeRoy Homecoming Committee. Violet loved her family dearly and loved visiting with them. After Jim died in 1991 she continued to live in LeRoy independently until 2000 when she moved to Humboldt and was kept very busy there with her friends and activities especially bingo. In 2008 she moved back to the LeRoy/Watson area until present. The family would like to thank the staff of Evergreen Country Home in LeRoy and Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson for their loving care and compassion that mom received while there. Violet will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her four children, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren: DAVID Smith of LeRoy and family, James Smith (Jenna) of Red Deer, AB and children Alexa, Taylor, Baylee and Meryssa, Daniel Smith of Red Deer, AB and Blair Smith of Slave Lake, AB; SANDRA (Larry) Reinhardt of Watson and family Dennis Reinhardt of Turtleford and Sheri Reinhardt of Pierceland; CATHY (George) Gresty and family Michael Gresty and his children, Kiefer and Rowen and Jaramie Gresty all of Saskatoon; and DARCY Smith (Sharlene) of Edmonton; brother Don (Toddy) Stein of LeRoy and sister Marjorie Schaerer of Medicine Hat, AB; two sisters-in-law: Jane Dietrick of LeRoy and Rose Pearson of Wynyard; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
