GIBNEY: Violet Lillian
September 17, 1924 - August 15, 2014
The passing of Mrs. Violet (nee Wheatley) Gibney, formerly of Drake, SK, occurred on August 15, 2014, at Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan, SK, at the age of 89, with her family at her side. Violet was a teacher, but when she met Tom Gibney she became a farmer's wife. They worked hard to make their home on the Gibney farm. She raised four children and taught them how to work and they learned many life lessons. She was a wonderful cook, grew a big garden, looked after the yard, stepped in when Tom was gone to look after the animals. She was involved with her church and the Drake community. She was a friend to many and always opened her doors for a coffee or a meal. Later in their lives they moved to Saskatoon where they made many new friends. With Tom's passing in July 2011, and Violet's failing health she returned to her roots at her home community. She resided at Central Parkland Lodge where she received excellent care. Violet will be lovingly remembered by her children: Maxine (Barry) Mesenchuk, Humboldt and their children Ryan (Sharon, Tighe, Dominic and India), Calgary, AB, Reagan (Devon, Conor, Logan, Emily, Noah and Darian, Dezman, Patience), St. Gregor, SK; Betty Gaskarth, St. Albert, AB, and her children Kara (Jason, Nathan and Liam), Grande Prairie, AB, and Will (Lynn and Lillie), Sherwood Park, AB; Joan (Clayton), Saskatoon and their children Crystal (Jonathan and Thomas), Saskatoon and Josh (Jamie), Saskatoon; Jack (Ruth), Drake and their children Scott (Destiny, Avery and Dax), Drake; Jade (Chris, Tyson, Ryder, Cooper), Humboldt; Nicole (Matt and Trinity), Regina and Laura (Ryan), Saskatoon; one sister, Gwen Calder, Surrey, BC; one brother, Delbert Wheatley, Kelowna, BC; two sister-in-laws: Jean Winters, Saskatoon and Marjorie (Ted) Shier, Vancouver, BC. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas; her parents, Fred and Dora Wheatley; four sisters: Esther, Agnes, Josephine and Dora. A Memorial Service for Violet was held at Knox United Church, Lanigan, on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Brenda Curtis.
