WITTIG: Vernon "Vern" Paul
December 28, 1961 - February 1, 2014
The sudden and unexpected death of Mr. Vernon "Vern" Paul Wittig of Quill Lake, SK, occurred at Yuma Regional Medical Centre, Yuma, AZ, USA, on Saturday, February 1, 2014. He was 52 years of age. Vern was born on December 28, 1961, in Watson, SK, to Clarence and Gloria (nee Talloden) Wittig. He attended school in Fort St. John, BC, up until grade 4 and continued his education in Quill Lake. Vern graduated from high school in 1979 and continued on to do one year of Arts and Science at St. Peter's College in Muenster. Vern married Pat (nee Stachyshyn) on July 23, 1983. They were blessed with two daughters, Alison in 1986 and Megan in 1989. Vern and Pat purchased the farm in 1985 and moved there in 1987. Vern joined the Royal Bank in 1982, and retired from the Humboldt Branch in 2007 to farm full time. During his 25 years with the bank, he was awarded a Caribbean cruise for his top performance and then was awarded the Leo Award, which was the top award given in the Royal Bank. Vern's passions were farming, hunting, traveling, wintering down in Yuma, AZ, and spending time with his wife, kids, and grandkids. His thirst for knowledge was unquenchable, and he spent a lot of time reading books on worldly topics. In 1981, he was successful in getting his pilot's licence. Vern also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and camping. His volunteer work included serving as a member on the Wesley United Church board, working for the Food Grains, and at the soup kitchen. Vern fulfilled his lifelong dream in 2012, when he travelled to Â鶹ÊÓƵ Africa for a safari hunt with his father, brothers, and two nephews. We will miss his outgoing personality and smile. Vern is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Pat (nee Stachyshyn) Wittig of Quill Lake; two daughters and two grandsons: Alison (Justin) Korte of Muenster and their boys Reid and Ryder; Megan Wittig (fiancé Shane Haeusler) of Saskatoon; his parents, Clarence and Gloria (nee Talloden) Wittig of Humboldt; three brothers: Greg (Gail) Wittig of Saskatoon and boys Dylan, Aidan and Griffin; Randy (Lisa) Wittig of Humboldt and family, Zach, Avery and Alex; and Chris (Laurie) Wittig of Quill Lake; in-laws: Steve and Marion (nee Luchyshyn) Stachyshyn of Humboldt; Lori (Martin) Taje of Blackfalds, AB, and family, Shauna (Scott) Bzdel and their children Landon and Keaton, Jodie (Grant) Eirickson and daughter Aubree, and Brittiny Haw; and Gloria (Cory) Leibel of Blackfalds, AB, and family, Josh and Kaden; and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
