MAGER: Theresa

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Theresa Mager on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the age of 90 years. Theresa is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her eight children, Lloyd Mager of Edmonton; Bridget (Kim) Smith of Regina; Bruce (Victoria) Mager of Edmonton; Adele MacDonald of Halifax; Dennis (Sherry) Mager of Regina; Audrey (Herb) Mager of Saskatoon; Barbara (Gordon) Mager of Regina; and Brenda (Ross) Mager of Yorkton; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters Anne Fitzgerald and Elizabeth Bidwell of Saskatoon, Dora Finlayson of Kamloops; and numerous nieces and nephews. Theresa was predeceased by her parents; husband Christie Mager; great-grandson James Christian Hudson; Pfefferle brothers Max, Matt, Leo, Anthony and Theodore; and sister, Sr. Canisia (Mary) Pfefferle. Theresa was born on October 11, 1922 to Max and Theresia (nee Forster) Pfefferle in the old St. Elizabeth Hospital in Humboldt, SK. She grew up on her father's homestead three miles west of Lake Lenore with five brothers and four sisters. Theresa attended the nearby Bright Valley School. On January 17, 1950 Theresa married Christie Mager at St. Anthony's Church in Lake Lenore. Christie and Theresa lived in Lake Lenore where they raised their eight children in a small home on Main Street. Theresa was a devoted mother and grandmother who worked tirelessly to feed and clothe her children with limited resources. She was a skilled quilter and kept busy knitting countless pairs of mitts, socks, scarves and blankets. Feeding a family took special talents in baking, cooking and preserving food from the garden and hours picking berries. Later Theresa and Christie took up the janitorial position for the Lake Lenore Elementary and High Schools. After retiring Theresa enjoyed visits from her grandchildren, watching Blue Jays baseball with Christie, playing bingo and shuffle board, and bowling. Christie passed away on August 5, 2000, and Theresa continued to live in their home until August 2003 when she moved to Regina. Theresa took to city life with dynamite speed always eager to try a new restaurant, browse the malls and spend a bit of time at the Casino with her children. The fondest memories are the many family gatherings at her daughters' homes in Regina where Theresa could finally sit back and let "the girls" feed everyone. After suffering a second hip injury and subsequent surgery Theresa was cared for in Parkside Extendi-Care. Like many things in life she took this transition in stride and made the best of it. On July 22nd she suffered a stroke and heart attack and died in the early hours of July 27th at the Pasqua Hospital, Regina. Theresa was a woman who lived her faith through the love she shared with her family. As it is said "To love someone is to see the face of God". God shone through Mom everyday. A FUNERAL MASS will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Lake Lenore, SK. Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home.
